Requirements

Be physically fit
 - Hiking: be used to walk for a few hours

 - Canyoning: know how to swim

Canyoning is suitable for beginners and optional (see below).

What's the plan?

The Natural park of Sierra de Guara is located in the Pre-Pyrenees and has a multitude of karstic canyons sculpted by air and water, that formed rocks of amazing shapes and colours. The crystal-clear rivers and the small villages (abandoned or not) invite us to discover the rich history of this extraordinary natural area, which we'll do hiking and canyoning (it is up to you to choose whether you want to do one or the other, or both).

Here are a few examples of the things we could do (note that the activities may vary according to external/weather conditions):

ALQUÉZAR - an old village hung on a canyon cliffs

We will visit the town of Alquézar and walk through its fantastic "Route of the footbridges" that will give us a unique perspective on the Vero river canyon.

THE ROUTE OF THE ABANDONED VILLAGES

From the heart of the natural park, we will start a fantastic hike that will take us to a beautiful natural spring of water; a dolmen where we will enjoy impressive views on the Pyrenees mountains and we’ll visit abandoned villages far from civilization.

MALLOS DE RIGLOS: the doorways to heaven

By car, we will drive up to the majestic Mallos de Riglos. They are a geological rock formation made of conglomerate and characterized by large vertical walls up to 275 meters high. We will discover them through a beautiful hike.

THE BIERGE WATERFALL

We will start a hiking route from the waterfall of Bierge, which is 9 meters high. We will go up the river to discover a spring that arises in a magical place with crystal-clear waters.

CANYONING

If you'd like to go canyoning instead of hiking, that's also an option (see conditions below). Countless amazing canyons run through the Sierra de Guara: the Petit Mascún y la Virgen, Oscuros de Balces,  Peonera, Gorgas Negras,... are amongst the ones we usually go for.

WINE CELLAR VISIT

If you want to, we can go visit a winery and do a Somontano wine tasting (optional).

Accommodation & Meals

We’ll be staying in furnished apartments in the middle of the Sierra de Guara Natural Park. The total capacity of the apartments is up to 6 people: two double rooms, a dining room with 2 individual sofa-beds, a fitted kitchen and a bathroom. A swimming pool is also open in the summertime.

There is mini supermarket and a good restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner (if we do not want to prepare the food on our own), with vegan and vegetarian options at very reasonable prices.

How do we get there?

We'll be sharing private cars.
When you sign up, you'll be invited to let us know if you have a car and how many people can come with you.
